Barnet Library Services aims to make life-long learning accessible to all people living in the borough through a variety of flexible learning opportunities at different levels of study.
For people who haven’t got to grips with computers, basic courses are on offer, aimed at people who benefit from working in small groups with friendly and helpful adult tutors. Many older learners find these courses particularly useful.
The flagship centre is at Hendon Library where a wide range of computing and business courses are run. They are suitable for people in business, those who want to develop new skills, people who want to develop their careers or just don’t want to be left behind in the ever-changing world of technology.
The network of libraries also offers courses to help people brush up on reading, writing and maths skills. Learners study in small groups and at their own pace.
The People’s Network is also available at all libraries in Barnet where specially-trained staff will help people to send an e-mail, use the internet or just get started. Those who are more confident about using a PC can use self-learning packages available in all libraries.
Other learning activities and events are held throughout the year. Details of these are published on the Barnet Libraries’ website at www.barnet.gov.uk and are also available from the libraries themselves.
Specific courses are provided by Barnet College at the Community Learning Centres at East Barnet and Grahame Park Libraries: How to use the Internet and How to use a Computer.
Similar courses are also newly available at Hendon Library which is also a learndirect centre. For further information call:
