Barnet College Business students on the Waitrose Internship
Five students on their second year of their Business Foundation Degree at Barnet College have embarked on a six month internship with Waitrose. Jamie Sebbi, Natasha Chitangala, Lurena Job Victorino, Alfazur Raman and Eve Martin - Garcia are now six weeks into their internships, where they spend two days a week working in stores across North London. Their roles vary from working in the office to spending time on the shop floor getting to know the product, the customer and the brand ethos.
As part of their six month placement, the students have to produce a 5,000 word project of their choice on Waitrose. Each student is placed with a personnel manager at their chosen store and is offered guidance and support throughout their placement.
Dee Feehan, HR Manager at Waitrose said: “We have been partnering with Barnet College for many years now, offering internships to students. We firmly believe that our role as a business is to give something back to the community. This is a great opportunity for these students, as it gives them an opportunity to explore the world of work and the chance to gain an enormous amount of knowledge working for a leading British retailer.”
Jamie Sebbi, a student on the internship at Waitrose said: “I’m really enjoying this experience and have learnt so much already in six weeks. It’s been invaluable, my confidence has grown and I have really developed my team working and communication skills. You really get an understanding of how a business works and the only way of really doing this is to get stuck in.”
